Ennes Workshop: Syracuse
The Society of Broadcast Engineers and SBE Chapter 22 Syracuse present an Ennes Workshop

Saturday, June 10, 2017; 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

at the Holiday Inn Syracuse/Liverpool Airport, New York
441 Electronics Parkway, Liverpool, NY 13088

The final schedule is being set, but presentations to date include the following.

Introduction to ATSC 3.0
While ATSC 3.0 is the natural progression to high dynamic range, 4k, high frame rate, immersive sound and multimedia, ATSC 3.0 also makes TV interactive and a participant in targeted advertising and viewer customization. The repack dramatically reduces the available spectrum, so it is impossible to ignore that ASTC 3.0 offers bandwidth to the industry that is lost in the realignment. Fred Baumgartner, CPBE, CBNT; Trustee, Ennes Educational Foundation Trust

FCC and the Repack
The manufacturing process of both Parallax and the HC product lines will be discussed as well as how they would be placed in the USA. Learn about the new Parallax transmitter for high-power to medium-power liquid-cooled transmitters and the medium- to low-power transmitters cooled by air. Doug Thompson; Hitachi Kokusai Electric Comark, LLC

Bend Radius or How Wire Fails
What actually happens when you bend a cable? We took both coax cables and twisted pairs cables, wrapped them around a cone, tighter and tighter, and read the impedance. Then we crushed each cable, read the impedance, and then "un-crushed" it by hand, to see how much of the performance came back. The results are very surprising. Much of what we believed about bending cable is not true. Additionally, Steve will talk about how wire and cable fail and how to prevent it. Starts with resistance, capacitance, inductance, and finally impedance, what they are, how they affect signals running down cables and how that parameter makes cable fail. Included is a short section on fire ratings.
Steve Lampen, CBRE, Belden

The SNMP Protocol in Broadcast Facility Control
You will be introduced to the Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) and learn it can be used to monitor and control equipment, and coordinate actions between different sites, at any distance. A basic primer on SNMP will be presented and you will receive your information on how to explore the possible useful applications of the SNMP protocol in your own facility.
Tony Peterle, CPBE, Worldcast Systems

Repack and Antenna Considerations 101
With the upcoming FCC repack this presentation will touch on various transmit antenna options from many different manufacturers, including installation considerations. Are you questioning which auxiliary antenna will keep you on the air? Have your questions answered and feel confident in knowing what system will meet your specific needs. This presentation is intended to be beneficial for engineers, both experienced in antenna installations and those new to RF engineering. Jim Heard, DTVPros
