Discussion will center around the requirement to provide Infrared at night for pilots using Night Vision Goggles (NVG), Avian (non-flashing), monitoring and reporting lighting requirements. EAS Encoding/Decoding is one of the last components in the TV or Radio broadcast chain that have not been absorbed into appliances, software, or transmission processes. Discussions are underway regarding the future of EAS Modernization. In consultation with FEMA, IPAWS and the FCC, new innovative ideas are being proposed that could streamline and strengthen the Emergency Alert System by moving part of the EAS system into software. The proposed design would provide resiliency over the infrastructure that is in place now. This presentation will talk about the legacy system that is in place, and some of the concepts broadcasters and regulators are looking at for the future that are under consideration.

New FCC rule changes now permit directional FM antenna modeling to use computational methods which will allow FM broadcasters to transition from physical modeling to a more efficient, economical and accurate computer simulated modeling procedure. Slotted coaxial antennas have many advantages over traditional broadband panel antennas including much smaller size and wind load, higher reliability and greater degree of azimuth and elevation pattern flexibility. The new technology allows a single broadband pylon antenna to be designed in a free standing, top mount configuration without sacrificing azimuth pattern circularly from the presence of external feedlines or the extra wind load associated with two antennas. Dielectric’s patent pending technology expands pylon technology to 10 channels of bandwidth.
