Job Description:
The Broadcast Engineer’s primary responsibilities are to help maintain the technical and physical plant infrastructure of the TV station, and to support a fast-paced news operation. Good candidates should be a Jack-of-all trades and enjoy large variations in daily duties. This is a full-time position, with full benefits. Duties include installing and maintaining studio and transmitter site broadcast equipment, as well as performing maintenance tasks to insure continued operation and reliability. Other duties include setup of remote broadcasts and studio/transmitter site building maintenance as needs arise. This is a hands-on job, using standard troubleshooting tools, test equipment and software.

The broadcast engineer must work well with other staff members to address technical issues, take pride in their work and be able react quickly and efficiently in high-stress situations.

Duties/Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Maintain broadcast and IT systems through routine maintenance and when problems arise
  • Provide support to News, Sales and Operations staff quickly and efficiently
  • Engineering support for studio production, post-production, and remote production events and programs
  • Ensures all equipment is operating correctly before and during event telecasts
  • Corrects technical problems in a timely manner, documenting work performed and additional work required
  • Stay current with new broadcast equipment, technology, and software

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Associates Degree or job related experience in related engineering field
  • Experience with digital electronics systems in a television broadcasting environment preferred
  • Experience with RF Systems preferred
  • Experience with professional audio/video equipment and software
  • Knowledge of control-room automation and newsroom software is a plus
  • Experience with the latest computer/server operating systems and networking
  • Ability to adapt quickly under pressure, while maintaining efficiency and composure
  • Must possess a positive work attitude, a strong work ethic, and the ability to work well with others
  • Must be able to work varying hours, including occasional weekends
  • Should be capable of performing basic physical tasks involving bending/lifting up to 50lbs and working outdoors under a variety of weather conditions
  • Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record are mandatory

Salary: $38,000 to $46,000 based on experience and skill level
