Remembering longtime Chapter 22 member and chapter officer Gary Hartman, who passed away on Christmas Eve. Gary held SBE member number 974, joining SBE on February 3rd, 1969 and participated in the founding of Chapter 22. He was a Life Member and SBE Fellow. Gary was the current Chapter 22 Treasurer, Frequency Coordinator and Certification Chairman. He held many officer and committee positions with Chapter 22 in his almost 57 years of service and many roles with the SBE22 Expo. Chapter 22 will honor Gary at at a time to be announced. Our next meeting will be held on Wednesday, January 21st, 6pm, in person at WSTM and via Teams, with Jeff Welton, Regional Sales Manager, Eastern U.S. for Nautel, presenting, “Site Hardening (lessons from the field)”

“Site Hardening (lessons from the field)” – We put transmitters in uninsulated cinderblock buildings at the base of tall lightning rods, at the end of the AC feed from the power company. This session will talk about hardening the site – looking at all aspects of infrastructure including grounding, cooling, physical and data security. With thirty-five years of visits to hundreds of sites, Jeff says, “I never say I’ve seen it all, as it’s taken as a challenge”. There will be photos of things.
Jeff Welton is the Regional Sales Manager, Eastern U.S., for Nautel. He was originally hired as a field service tech, taking the calls and crawling through the equipment at zero dark-thirty. He has been with Nautel for over 35 years and performs several presentations a year on topics ranging from IT security to grounding and lightning protection as well as still crawling through the occasional transmitter, although more in the daytime hours these days!
